You’ll find this Cenote about 20km north of Tulum. Dos Ojos means ‘two eyes’ in english, and it’s named this because it’s actually two neighbouring cenotes that are connected by a large cavern area.
Getting there is easy, just wave down a colectivo (The white minivans that you see everywhere. They are the easiest and cheapest way to get around) heading north and you’ll be there in no time. Please don’t make the same mistake we did and try to ride your bike there! Yep, that happened. I guess the slight language barrier between us and the Hostel owners meant that we thought they said it would be a twenty minute bike ride north, not 20km. Not to mention the long dirt road once you reach the turn-off on the highway!
We survived, albeit with slightly bruised bottoms (they’re cruiser bikes, not proper bikes), and these are the kinds of stories that we look back on and giggle at.
Anyway, it’s an absolutely magical place and we highly recommend visiting if you find yourself in Tulum.
Here is a video and some photos from our day at Cenote Dos Ojos.
