In 2016, after living in a 1985 Toyota Hiace pop-top campervan for eighteen months, my partner at the time and I decided to completely rebuild and recreate it.
We’d been living in it with the fit-out that we bought it with, and whilst it wasn’t a bad fit-out it was more designed for weekend trips rather than full-time vanlife.
We tried to document most of the process so that we could share it with anyone who is interested. We ended up sharing everything on social media rather than blogging in huge detail – you can see photos and read more on this Instagram account.
Although we’ve since gone our separate ways, I have nothing but fond memories of this part of my life and am proud of everything we went through to fulfil each of our personal goals of living simply and affordably.
Those years taught me a lot about how little I really need to be happy – everything I owned fit into a small drawer and side cupboard. And there were still things I carried around that I never used!
It was eye-opening and life changing.
We also filmed a tour of the finished product – if you like it, be sure to hit the thumbs up and leave a comment!
